Users can search for anything in photos, with the service showing the results in three major categories: People, Places, and Things. The service automatically analyzes photos and identifies various visual features and subjects. Google Photos was first introduced in May 2015 and is now available on multiple platforms, including Android, iOS, the web, and many more. For example, did you know you could seamlessly transfer photos from iCloud into Google Photos? Or that you can use Google Photos as a screensaver on Google TV? We’ve discussed Google Photos often at GroovyPost across multiple platforms. Additionally, Google Lens on the web can’t yet identify objects such as plants and animals. For example, you can’t yet translate non-English text in an image even though you can copy it. Additionally, not every Google Lens feature has been carried over (for now) from Android.
The Copy Text From Image option on the web doesn’t catch every word, likely by design. Notice how the tool identifies text from different locations on the photo. Meanwhile, in this example, Google Lens can read the text from a tiny sign within an image, then activate the “Copy Text From Image” feature. From there, it automatically activates the stated feature. In the following example, Google Photos for the web detects text from an iPhone screenshot. Copy/Paste the content you want from the text pane.You’ll only see this box when Google Lens detects text. To try out the the instant camera translation feature, download the Google Translate app.Ideally suited for scanning a receipt or perhaps a page in a book or magazine, the option is extremely simple to use. And “Import” lets you translate text from photos on your camera roll. "Scan" lets you take a photo and use your finger to highlight text you want translated. The new look has all three camera translation features conveniently located on the bottom of the app: “Instant” translates foreign text when you point your camera at it. This produces more accurate and natural translations, reducing errors by 55-85 percent in certain language pairs. Translate app can now determine what language the sign is in, and then translate it for you into your language of choice. Say you’re traveling through South America, where both Portuguese and Spanish are spoken, and you encounter a sign. We took care of that-in the new version of the app, you can just select “Detect language” as the source language, and the Translate app will automatically detect the language and translate. When traveling abroad, especially in a region with multiple languages, it can be challenging for people to determine the language of the text that they need to translate. This means you can now translate from Arabic to French, or from Japanese to Chinese, etc. What’s more exciting is that, previously you could only translate between English and other languages, but now you can translate into any of the 100+ languages supported on Google Translate.
